SKIN CARE MYTHS DEBUNKED!

There are many myths about skincare and beauty that we’ve been told our entire lives. Today we’re going to bust through some of the most popular myths and share our thoughts on what really works for your skin!

MYTH #1 – You don’t need moisturizer if you have oily skin.

People with oily skin often think that adding moisturizer will make add-on to their shine or create more oil which is definitely NOT true! Lack of hydration to the skin will actually cause it to create more oil as a defense mechanism. Hydrating with high-quality moisturizers, like our Antioxidant Hydrating Fluid, will help to soothe and nurture your skin.

MYTH #2 – A higher SPF will provide better protection. A hard one to answer, and only partly true.

Experts have discovered that a high broad-spectrum SPF provides only a little extra protection than of a lower SPF. For example, an SPF of 30 blocks 97% of UVA and UVB rays, whereas an SPF of 50 blocks out 98% of UVA and UVB rays. It’s a small difference and unless you are planning on being outside for more than 2-3 hours (or peak hours of 10:00 am – 2:00pm), a higher SPF may provide a little bit longer protection. That said, using sunscreen alone should not be your only defense against the sun’s harmful rays. Seeking shade, protective clothing and reapplying as directed will give you a much higher chance of protection.

MYTH #3 – Products will stop working once your skin gets used to them

Short answer is no, however, this can change depending on your physiological and hormonal changes. Generally speaking, when you find skincare products that work for you, it’s going to stay that way. Find a product you love and it use as long as you’d like! Should changes in your skin occur (such as with menopause), you may need to adjust your products accordingly. Our go to product that we will NEVER get enough of and works for all skin types is our Daily Repair Serum.

MYTH #4 – Toothpaste is a great acne treatment alternative

While the baking soda in toothpaste may help to dry pimples and the skin surrounding them, it also causes irritation. The best acne solution is to find a quality product that contains salicylic acid – like our Blemish Repair Serum.

MYTH #5 – You only need skincare for your face

Wrong again! Make it a priority to take care of ALL of your skin, it is your largest organ after all.

  • Use your facial products all the way down to your neck and chest.
  • Apply a body butter or lotion after you shower.
