How To Get Youthful Skin: Everyday Do's & Don'ts

Heather Grace Skincare How To Get Youthful Skin: Everyday Do's & Don'ts

Let's all be honest here...

Everyone wants to achieve youthful, glowing and healthy skin. And, rightly so too. When you know your skin is healthy & glowing confidence becomes your best friend. You feel a sense of self-worth. Your self-image transforms.

With consistency and by using the right products, you can achieve the above. Whether you want to minimise your breakouts or slow down the aging process of your skin, it's possible. There are things you can do (and don't do) to reach your dream complexion.

Let's begin. Here are three skincare do's for you:

1. Apply A Good Cleanser

Ok, ok. I know. You've heard this before. But, the keyword "good" makes this slightly more important. See, people will visit the drugstore, buy a $5 cleanser and expect to see better skincare results than medical-grade cleansers.

A higher price doesn't always guarantee better results, but you need to be cautious when looking at the ingredients. Cleansers that use ingredients such as Parabens, Phthalates and harmful fragrances may be doing more damage than good.

You should cleanse your skin twice a day. Once in the morning. Once in the nighttime. You can also use a product like the Pumpkin Enzyme Cleanser to double cleanse. Ensure all excess oil, dirt and makeup is removed effectively.

 2. Give Your Skin Time

There's a famous quote I love. "Mediocrity is easy, the good things take time, the great need commitment" - Bob Seger.

A beautiful quote, but it's relevant to your skin as well. There are still many people relying on "quick skin fixes" to achieve glowing skin. In reality, it's something that takes months (or even years) to achieve.

But, there is 100% hope. If you stay consistent with your skincare routine and body/mind goals, it's closer than you think. Your skin is your largest organ, so of course, you should give it time.

3. Consult Your Esthetician

It's overlooked, but it's worth the investment (believe me). It could be your difference between "meh, I feel ok" skin and "OMG, I'm feeling amazing today" skin.

Estheticians specialise in the human skin. They completed hundreds of hours in training. Completed examinations related to the human skin. They breathe the human skin. So, you know they can beneficially consult you.

How they can help your skin:

  • Estheticians provide an expert analysis of your skin (One that no other person can provide)
  • Recommend  products tailored to your skin. So, you know you're applying skincare that betters your skin, not the other way around.
  • Prevent potential skin issues.
  • Can offer specialised skin treatments. Ones that can minimise perfections like wrinkles, fine lines, acne and more.

So, there you are. Three key skincare do's to take in and apply for that youthful complexion. But, there are some things (that you could be doing) that can prolong the process of your clear skin.

Luckily for you, all these can be easily prevented.

Anyway, here are some things you SHOULDN'T be doing if you want to achieve youthful skin:

1. Forget Your SPF

As you may already know, the sun's UV rays can cause damage to our skin. Overexposure can result in sunburn, discolouration and even premature signs of ageing.

If you apply SPF daily, you'll be protecting your skin from these damaging UV rays. All you need to do is apply sunscreen (SPF depended on your skin type) after you moisturise your skin.

Studies have shown that those below age 55 who apply SPF regularly have a 24% less chance of developing these signs of aging, than those who don't.

If you're struggling to find a perfect SPF, I recommend the Invisible Daily Defence range by Neutrogena.

2. Exfoliate Everyday

Exfoliation is loved by your skin. It can help prevent clogged pores, resulting in fewer breakouts. Long-term exfoliation can also stimulate collagen production (a protein vital for healthy skin).

There's no argument that exfoliation is great for your skin. But, you shouldn't be exfoliating every day. Excessive exfoliation can result in breakouts, skin irritation and inflammation.

Here's what Joanna Vargas (a celebrity facialist) said about exfoliation:

"Exfoliating every day can strip the skin of its natural oils, which can cause breakouts. Over-exfoliating can cause chronic skin irritation and inflammation, which can lead to accelerated aging"

If you want to exfoliate your skin and reap the benefits, do it 2-3 times a week. This is what most experts advise.

3. Touch Your Face

You may deny not touching your face, but it's pretty common. A lot of people touch their faces without even knowing it. When they're working, at the gym or commuting - We're all guilty of doing it.

When you touch your skin, you're transferring the bacteria from your hands onto your skin. And, as you know, bacteria can result in breakouts and acne.

According to Dr Bank, touching your face is a common cause of breakouts around your chin and jawline. It's the pressure and bacteria that causes it all.

Try and set yourself a goal. Become more mindful of where you're putting your hands... especially your face.

Bonus tip: Sanitize your mobile phone a few times a week as well. It carries a lot of bacteria and is in prime reach to your face.

4. Expect Results Overnight

If you're trying to achieve something great, it takes time. Whether you're building a business, relationship or manifesting glowing skin, it takes time.

With skincare, you shouldn't expect to see results overnight. You may see gimmicks like "this gets rid of acne overnight", but the reality is it takes time. Whether it's weeks, months or even years, it's nothing instant.

Keep consistent. Stay disciplined. Applicable to your skincare routine, but also relevant to your eating and health. You could see your dream skin sooner than you think.

The Bottom Line:

Achieving glowing skin may seem impossible, but with consistency, anything great can be achieved. So, yes. That youthful glow that you've been dreaming of? It can be reached. You need to develop good habits (skincare do's) and get rid of the bad (skincare don'ts) and it can be made possible.
